For interior and exterior use

Unica super lacquer contains UV protective agents which slow down the effects of UV and yellowing and can also be tinted to a wide range of translucent colours.

Colourless or tinted

Unica Super can be used in colourless form, or tinted to the colours of the Interior Wood Stains and Lacquers and Valtti colour cards. If the lacquer is too dark, it can be made lighter by adding colourless Unica Super or White Spirit 1050.

Dries quickly

Unica Super is dust-dry in 2 hours and recoatable after 6 hours. The next coat of lacquer can be applied after 24 hours. The lacquer reaches its final hardness and durability in approximately 4 weeks.

Colour Range
Available in the colours of Interior Wood Stains and Lacquers and Valtti colour card. Make a trial application on a small area to ensure that the colour is correct. If the colour is too dark, add colourless Unica Super or White Spirit 1050.
Gloss grade
12 - 14 m2/l per coat.
The above should be used as a guide, as actual spreading rates will depend upon many factors including texture, porosity and application method.

Can sizes
0.225 l, 0.9 l, 2.7 l and 9 l
White Spirit 1050
Application method
Brush or spray. For airless spray use a nozzle 0.009" - 0.013" (0.230 - 0.330 mm).
Thinning: if necessary thin up to 10 vol-% with white spirit 1050.

Drying time at 23°C and 50% relative air humidity
Dust dry after 2 hours, touch dry after 6 hours, re-coatable after 24 hours. Final hardness after 2 weeks depending on ventilation, temperature of the air, relative humidity of the air and thickness of the paint film.
Chemical resistance
Withstands petrol, naphtha, white spirit and denatured alcohol, vegetable and animal fats, lubricants and grease. Does not withstand e.g. thinner.
Wash resistance
Excellent with all usual detergents, SFS 3755
Solids volume
48 %
0.9 kg/l, ISO 2811.
Withstands cold storage and transportation. Poorly sealed or half empty container does not withstand longterm storage.

Application conditions
The surface to be varnished must be dry, the temperature of the air at least +5 ºC, and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %. Do not apply during strong sunlight or during damp and cold weather. Time the work so that the lacquer film will have enough time to dry before evening dew.
Untreated surfaces:
Remove dirt and dust from untreated surfaces. Wipe hardwood surfaces with White Spirit 1050 before treatment. Always prime bare exterior wooden surfaces with Valtti Base priming oil prior to applying lacquer.

Previously treated surfaces:
Wash down the surface with Cleaning Agent (Maalipesu) and rinse carefully with water. Remove old/loose lacquer with scraper. Sand the whole surface and remove sanding dust.
Methods: Brush or spray. For airless spray use a nozzle 0.009" - 0.013" (0.230 - 0.330 mm). Thinning: if necessary thin up to 10 vol-% with white spirit 1050. Stir Unica Super well before use. Prime untreated surfaces with Unica Super thinned with max. 20 % White Spirit 1050. Apply 2-3 thin and even layers. For finishing coat thin 0 - 20%, if necessary. Apply 1-2 coats of unthinned Unica Super on previously lacquered surfaces. Sand the surface lightly between coats. Note! Always prime exterior surfaces with full-gloss Unica Super 90.
Cleaning of tools
Clean tools with White Spirit 1050 or with Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner).
Maintenance instructions
Avoid cleansing approx. 1 month after the painting work.
Clean surface with a neutral (pH 6-8) dishwashing agent and a soft brush, sponge or a dust rag.
Soiled surfaces can be cleansed with a cleaning tool using a neutral (pH 6-8) detergent. Rinse surface carefully after maintenance.

Handle the surface with care, ultimate durability and hardness is reached in approx. a moth under normal circumstances. If cleansing is needed, use a soft brush, a mop or a damp cleaning cloth.
Maintenance treatment
Observe the condition of the exterior surface and recoat when necessary. Longer maintenance interval can be obtained with a tinted product compared to a colourless product. If the surface was previously treated with Unica Super lacquer, all similar solventborne lacquers can be used for maintenance painting.

Product consumption, when surface is...

Consumption varies depending on the surface to be treated and its condition. Absorption is affected e.g. by the surface roughness, moisture content level of timber and porosity. For example, log surface that has been untreated for a long time takes a lot more wood finish than a new surface to be treated.

When calculating the consumption, note that the consumption for round logs is 1.5 times higher than normal. Please also note the corner joints in the surface area.

Rounding up

As the filling rate is usually 90% (space for tinting), it is good to round up the liter amounts and reserve enough of the product so that the work is not interrupted unnecessarily, and colour will be even.
