Taika Stardust

A pinch of stardust

Taika Stardust is a waterborne, transparent effect glaze that contains glittering gold or silver particles. It is used on painted surfaces to create a metallic sparkle.

A Stardust coat goes particularly well with velvety matt Harmony interior paint.

Sparkle from light

The sparkle of Taika Stardust is most visible in sidelight, under a spotlight, or in strong natural light. Create a space where a glimmer of light reveals a luxurious metallic sheen.

Highlight details

Taika Stardust can be used to treat an entire wall or just to highlight details. It is also ideal for stenciling. We recommend using a small roller or brush with stencils, as the glitter particles will stick to foam plastic tools.

A silver sheen or the richness of gold?

Taika Stardust is a transparent effect glaze. The colour of the interior paint used with the glaze has a major impact on the end result. Is your preference a cool blue wall with a silver glimmer, or perhaps chocolate brown accented with gold? Only creativity sets the limits!

Application conditions
The surface to be painted must be dry, the temperature of the air at least +10°C, and the relative humidity of the air 30-70 %.
Unpainted surface:
Remove dirt and dust from new surfaces. Fill the surfaces with a suitable Presto or Prestonit filler, if needed, and sand the dried surface. Remove sanding dust. Prime e.g. with Feelings Universal Primer. Finish with interior paint, e.g. Harmony or Feelings Interior Paint 1-2 times.
Previously painted surface:
Wash down previously painted surfaces with Maalipesu cleaning detergent and rinse carefully with water. Sand hard and glossy surfaces matt. Remove sanding dust. Fill cracks and holes with a suitable Presto filler and sand the dried surface. Remove sanding dust. Finish with interior paint, e.g. Harmony or Feeling Interior Paint to the desired colour.
Mix Taika Stardust well before use. Apply the product with a roller or brush in criss-cross strokes. Make sure that the product is applied evenly on the whole area. Overlaps should be faded out as the work progresses. The milkiness will disappear as the surface dries out. A trial application on thick cardboard or another test surface is recommended. Taika Stardust can also be used with stencils applied with a normal small roller or brush. We do not recommend to use tools made of foam.
Cleaning of tools
Remove excess glaze from the tools. Wash the tools with soap and water. For cleaning slightly hardened glaze, we recommend Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner).
Maintenance instructions
The product achieves its final hardness and durability after approx. 1 month under normal conditions, therefore the surfaces must be handled with care during this time. If the surfaces need to be cleaned soon after finishing, clean them lightly with a dry or damp cleaning cloth or mop.

At the earliest after approx. 1 month from finishing. The surfaces can be cleaned with dry brush, mop or dust towel. Dirty surfaces are cleaned with a damp cleaning cloth moistened with a neutral detergent (pH 6 - 8). The surface may not remain wet after cleaning. Follow the dilution instructions of the detergent manufacturer when preparing the detergent solution.
Maintenance treatment
See instructions from "Previously painted surface". You can also cover the effect surface by painting it with a waterborne wall paint.

Product consumption, when surface is...

Consumption varies depending on the surface to be treated and its condition. Absorption is affected e.g. by the surface roughness, moisture content level of timber and porosity. For example, log surface that has been untreated for a long time takes a lot more wood finish than a new surface to be treated.

When calculating the consumption, note that the consumption for round logs is 1.5 times higher than normal. Please also note the corner joints in the surface area.

Rounding up

As the filling rate is usually 90% (space for tinting), it is good to round up the liter amounts and reserve enough of the product so that the work is not interrupted unnecessarily, and colour will be even.
