Suitable as a primer and intermediate coat

Otex is suitable as a primer and intermediate coat for both new and previously painted surfaces. Otex adheres well to surfaces that require special adhesion, such as glass, tile, fiberglass, PVC plastic, aluminum, zinc-coated sheet metal, and surfaces coated with alkyd and acid-curing paint.

Tintable adhesion primer

Otex can be tinted according to Tikkurila Symphony 2436 colour card. Colour accuracy is not perfect, however.

APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions
The surface to be painted must be dry, the temperature of the air at least +5ºC, and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %.
Priming
Unpainted surfaces:
Remove dirt and dust from unpainted surfaces. Treat knot points on bare wooden surfaces with Tikkurila Knotting Lacquer. Wash surfaces requiring special adhesion with Maalipesu cleaning agent and rinse carefully with water. Sand matt. Remove sanding dust.

Previously painted surfaces:
Wash down previously painted surfaces with Maalipesu cleaning agent and rinse carefully with water. Sand the surface matt. Remove sanding dust.
Painting
Stir Otex well before use and thin, if necessary, for brush application with White Spirit 1050, and for spray application with Spray thinner 1032. Apply Otex by brush, roller or spray. Otex adhesion primer levels well, so sanding is often unnecessary. When a very smooth surface is preferred sand with a fine dry sanding paper.
Cleaning of tools
Clean tools with White Spirit 1050 or Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner).
Maintenance instructions
Handle the surface with care, ultimate durability and hardness is reached in approx. a month under normal circumstances. If cleansing is needed, use a soft brush or a damp cleaning cloth.
Clean the surface at the earliest after 1 month from painting, if necessary.
Use a neutral (pH 6-8) dishwashing agent and a soft brush, sponge or a dust rag.
Soiled surfaces can be cleansed with a cleaning cloth or sponge using a neutral (pH 8-10) detergent. Rinse surface carefully after maintenance.

Instructions

Consumption varies depending on the surface to be treated and its condition. Absorption is affected e.g. by the surface roughness, moisture content level of timber and porosity. For example, log surface that has been untreated for a long time takes a lot more wood finish than a new surface to be treated.

When calculating the consumption, note that the consumption for round logs is 1.5 times higher than normal. Please also note the corner joints in the surface area.

Rounding up

As the filling rate is usually 90% (space for tinting), it is good to round up the liter amounts and reserve enough of the product so that the work is not interrupted unnecessarily, and colour will be even.
